Destinee McCarty, CT
My name is Destinee McCarty (she/her/hers) and I am a Licensed Counselor Trainee currently attending John Carroll University for my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have seen many forms of judgement, ridicule and all around closed-mindedness throughout life and as a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community I realize it is so very important to be a safe space for individuals and aid in helping people gain a better understanding of their sexual identity. Sex and sexuality should not be such a taboo topic amongst any community and, especially as a woman of color, I feel it is my duty to bring a safe, sex positive, inclusive stance into every space I occupy. I am establishing a counseling approach that is grounded in the here and now, focusing on enhancing self awareness with an emphasis on creating a collaborative space with respectful dialogue. I am particularly interested in intimacy concerns, sexuality/identity, arousal concerns, communication and relationship dynamics. As I grow my counseling identity I am excited to bring my curiosity, empathy, determination and ingenuity into every session.
